Altidore hopeful about Villarreal future

USA striker Jozy Altidore is hopeful that he will get more time on the pitch for club side Villarreal.

Altidore impressed many with his display at the Confederations Cup in South Africa, scoring against Spain and playing in every match in the USA's run to the final.

The 19 year old is now hopeful that his showing in South Africa will allow him to get a starting position at El Madrigal, where he has been kept out of the side by Giuseppe Rossi and Joseba Llorente.

Altidore managed just one goal in six appearances for Villarreal before he was loaned out to Xerez, where injury prevented him from playing during the second half of the season.

Altidore said he was happy about getting a run of games at the Confed Cup, and hopes he will be able to break into the Villarreal side in order to seal a place as the USA's first choice striker ahead of next year's World Cup in South Africa.

"I need to play to go to the World Cup next year, and continue to be in [coach] Bob Bradley's side. Now I need to try to restore my confidence."

Altidore arrived at Villarreal for a fee of €7 million from the New York Red Bulls, but so far the young striker has not had a chance to prove himself in the Primera Liga.
